Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 136
of the United Association is located in Evansville, which rests
quietly on the Ohio River in southern Indiana. Evansville is a city
of southern charm with its riverboat gambling and small town feel.
Its diversified economy thrives with manufacturing facilities such
as Whirlpool, Bristol Myers, General Electric Plastics, AK Steel,
Toyota, Alcoa, plus many more. It also has one of the largest
concentrations of coal-fired electric generating plants in the United
States.
UA Local 136 was chartered on April 14,
1900, with the determination of 11 founding fathers. These men saw
the need, had the insight, and took action to make the future brighter
for men and women working in the piping industry in southern Indiana
and southeastern Illinois.
UA Local 136 has state-of-the-art journeyman
and apprentice training centers in Evansville and Bloomington, Indiana.
It is now approximately 1250 members strong and continues its commitment
to organizing the unorganized.
